artwork01: Sevillanas

Sevillanas is the result of a differing perception experienced by Eva during the start of the economic crisis in 2008. The heightened awareness was drawn from the people of Andalusia, situated in the South of Spain. The people here enjoy their family, the delicious food, the environment, sea and weather without complaining about their economical situation. Relatively the people of Andalusia suffered more during the economic crisis that started in 2008 than the people in the Northern European countries. And although they have a difficult work environment, they enjoy life. This is an enormous contrast with the mentality of the Dutch people of Eva's hometown. Whom, compared to the Spanish economy, have very few reasons to complain all the time.

The intention of this painting is therefore to make its spectator aware of the positive vibrations in life. By looking at the painting they are active in the present, forgetting the so-called pressure the society brings them.

Of course every person is free to think and/or feel whatever comes to mind when looking at the canvas.

Trivia:

The painting is based on a photograph Eva took during the Feria de Málaga in the Summer of 2010. During the ferias in Spain dancing flamenco is a tradition. Sevillanas is one of the most practiced traditional dances.

On the back of the canvas there's a hidden message which shows one of Eva's characteristics.
